The Different Home Car Lift Types

The conversation regarding mechanical parking systems often revolves around large commercial buildings and apartments. But their usefulness can improve vehicle organization in private residential environments as well. In other words, you can create more parking spaces in your garage without the need to expand its dimensions or build a new structure entirely. We discuss the different home car lift types so you can consider whether one will be a good fit for your home.

Two-Post Car Lifts

The two-post distinction often goes for those lifts that people who like the most economical easy to have installed parking systems. The two-post car lift for parking differs in that it has a full platform on which the rising vehicle rests. The two-post lift works through moving chains or cables connected to hydraulic cylinders that are contained within its two wide posts. When these move, they enable the system to raise or lower the platform. Once a vehicle is lifted, the platform is locked in place. Moreover, these types of home garage lifts can often be moved to different locations or rearranged without complete disassembly.

Ceiling Suspended Car Lifts

Ceiling suspended vehicle lifts for your home garage move cars up and down with chains attached to the four corners of a platform. The chains or cables are suspended from a larger four-post framework that surrounds the parking space. Those posts can be placed along the edges of your garage’s inner walls, so the lift takes up less space than a normal two-post lift. When the platform is raised, you barely notice a difference because of the streamlined design, which is preferable when you want your garage as clear as possible. Ceiling mounted car lifts are not as mobile as two-post car lifts are, however.

Underground Car Lifts

For a luxurious advancement in your home’s garage, you could consider an underground car lift. This is the most visually subtle of the different home car lift types because it can become completely hidden from view. To build one, a car lift company must excavate a rectangular pit beneath your garage floor. This allows the platforms to rise in and out of the ground as needed. In contrast to the other designs, there are two platforms connected, one on top of the other. The lower one sinks underground when the lift moves downward. The upper one acts as a regular parking space in the garage once that lower one has moved into the subterranean space. Lifting is accomplished under the two platforms through a hydraulic design where beams extend and contract in a scissor-like setup using hydraulics.
